For those of you who didn't see me post this elsewhere...

What is the deal with the Hunger Games? It's a huge hit, the books are selling, and all it seems to be to me (from what I've read about it) is that it's a long, depressing, overviolent slog through dystopia, a place where authors spend too damn much time.

What's the appeal?
